Every musician/singer mostly must have a Go International dream in their carrer, and we know America is what they’re talking about. I guess now Anggun, an indonesian incredible singer, who made her international career for more than a decade now, wants the same thing too. Conquering Europe was not enough for her.

She could deny it by saying she would not change her british accent (how did she do that in just 10 years living outside Indonesia) to american accent nor change her image and style, as suggested by an american producer to her recently. But by choosing a collaboration with american rappers & composer, it’s the same statement, and the result is quite disappointing ‘pour moi personellement’.

Just listen to her latest album ELEVATION, that is full of R&B crap, soo…jennifer lopez & mariah carey wannabe, sound cheap & sooo NOT ANGGUN people adore! I mean, come on, everyone must be blown away when she appeared the first time with Snow on the Sahara; Rose in the Wind/Kembali; SAVIOUR/Mantra!! (genius!! they even put the song as one of the TRANSPORTER 2 soundtrack); In Your mind/Etre Une Femme, etc. The European mixed with javanese ethnic “typiquement d’Anggun” flavor is what made her stand out from crowd, and make us proud as well.

I opt LUMINESCENCE as her best album of all, followed by SNOW ON THE SAHARA. Both french & english album are great, it’s a bit corky when she tried to translate some songs into indonesian language, only KEMBALI that really fits into her international superstar image.

I remember watching her concert in Jakarta in 2006, got this 3 days off from my french boss who was also Anggun
big fan, I was a new employee, and normally don’t get privilege to take an annual leave yet -if it’s not because of Anggun and the fact that my ex-boss was dying to see her as well.
