Bart and I really love to go to a big cultural or sports event as an photography occasion for him, and as a cultural experience for me. Bali is not only about hang out with friends and icy cold beers (although it’s also very nice!), sun bathing on the white sand beach. Ceremony such as ‘Ngaben‘ (Balinese cremation) is very often one of the main tourist attraction, specially when a royal family died, it must be HUGE!.

But one special thing about watching the parade of Pesta Kesenian Bali or Bali Arts Festival Opening is you got to witness the BEAUTY of Balinese dance, costume and musical performance…from all the regency of the island. It’s soo.. gorgeously colorful! and I never stop wowwing everytime I see this dance group performing. Balinese people are surely one of the biggest ethnic group in Indonesia who still pride themselves preserving their traditional culture, ie. dance, music, costume, food.

On my last visit to my parent’s house in Bandung,West Java in December 2008 I promised my self I should go back visiting this city, where I was born and grew up, every 3 or 4 months (my wish!), as I always miss my niece & nephew soon after I landed in Bali and so exactly on My dad’s birthday, 2nd of June’09 a ‘direct flight’ of Merpati Airlines Denpasar – Bandung flew me away from the sea, sun, surf island to the flower city or people in the past called it: Parijs van Java.

  • BACK ON BEEAMAZING!

After a week break in my parents home in Bandung,West Java, then back to Bali last week, then got a bad eyes infection, then got the flu and ‘masuk angin’ ….I really could not write anything, no mood, except checking my Facebook..one the most fun activity on the internet :p..

To be honest, entering a school holiday season and soon High Season in July-August, is a bit scary for me, as I know for sure, my daily activity around Jimbaran-Kuta-Seminyak-Denpasar-Sanur will always involve traffic jam, caused by those big tourist buses on the road, almost everywhere. I’d like to avoid some touristy areas for sure, but sometimes I need to get to the town doing my routines, and have to pass these streets, and no other way than join the honking club :(

So until my next posts about what’s happening in Bali (ie. Bali Arts Festival!), I will keep attending my honking anger management class…as I know I’ll be honking a lot for the next couple of months…Cheers.
